Hi all, just thought that I would have a wee scream on here! I have just spent all day completing an online job application for a rare post at a university in my field of work. Wouldn't you know that just at the final page an error kept occuring which wasn't my fault and it would let me submit the application form. I have had no choice but to close the form and lose all of the completed information. The deadline is Friday too! Do you think that I could cheer myself up by thinking that it could be fate intruding?

What I tend to do is fill out the info (things like 'experience', 'skills' etc) on a separate word document on or notepad as I go, so if something happens and I lose the info I can just put it all in again. And if it still doesn't work, just send them all the information and tell them the webmaster needs to sort it out (hoping they'll think I have 'initiative' or something!!!!).

As for fate? Possibly - I don't think you can ever tell! Give it a day or so and then try again...it's more likely that it's just a rubbish server problem or something. I would persist if you can see that you'd really enjoy the job!

Keep trying Jazz. Must be frustrating. Anything to do with technology doesn't come easily to me. I've tried to post a couple of times and had problems. I'm wondering if I took too long. I have some recipes to post, so I think I may have to try typing them in a word document and then cutting and pasteing them. I also want to post a picture of our little dog, just got him back from the groomers. I'm going to wait until one of my children will (hopefully), help me figure it all out.

Good luck with your job application, it sounds like it might be something special and worth the effort to keep pursuing it. Let us know how you get on.

Hi Jazz,I am so sorry about your frustration and can completely identify with it .I have learned what small computer skills I have through trial and error--mostly error---!! but although I have never applied for a job online,I have attempted other important things and the frustration is enormous when it all turns to a bucket of worms.
Have one more try and good luck with it,if you're meant to get the job,you will,I'm a great believer in fate. Fingers crossed.

Hi jazz this is a message I once received when asking the question, To be or not to be?
I thought it very apt, here goes:-
It's like the story of the religious man who lives in a valley below a dam. One day the dam bursts and the valley starts to flood, but the man doesn't leave. "I'm a religious man, I believe in God," he says, "He'll look after me."Water rises in the town and the coast guard comes to tell him that it's time to leave. "I'm a religious man, I believe in God," he says, "He'll look after me."Soon the water is so high he has to climb onto the roof. A boat comes by, the rower offering to ferry the man to dry land. He refuses the offer. "I'm a religious man, I believe in God,"he says, "He'll look after me" As the water is about to force him off the roof into the current, a helicopter flies overhead, dropping a ladder. The man refuses to take it. "I'm a religious man, I believe in God," he says, "He'll look after me"not long afterwards, the man is swept away and drowns.

At Heaven's Gate, the man demands a personal interview with God which, reluctantly, St Peter grants. The man says to God, "I was a religious man, I believed in you, why didn't you look after me?" God replies, "I sent you the coast guard, a boat and a helicopter - what more did you want me to do?"Life is the same. You choose, don't let choices be made for you. I'm sure you'll make the right decision with your job application.XX

Thanks everyone for all your words of support, and the useful parable, Sheddie. Unfortunately, not only was it not possible to effectively submit the application form, but it was one of those ones where you can't save or print off what you have typed! Universities seem to be full of that type of form for some reason. However, I managed to get a response to my email asking for help and the HR dept emailed me the form instead. The silver lining is that they said that they were wondering why they hadn't had any applications, and that I am the first person to alert them to the problem. So, in a strange way my application leaps into the lead!
