Just supposing you were out shopping in your favourite store. You are so absorbed in what you are seeing and thinking that time speeds by. So quickly in fact that, suddenly you are aware of the silence, dimmed lights, no one around. You have been locked in for the night!
What store/shop would you like to be locked in for the night, and how would you spend your time?
Mine would be a haberdashery store with beautiful fabrics, ribbons, lace and all the tools at my fingertips to create something beautiful...without any interruptions. I would make lace purses and fabric bags as Christmas presents for family and friends.
Where would you like to be and what would you do???

I wouldn't mind being locked in at Harrods. I could try on all the expensive clothes and use all the body ointments and cosmetics, and eat lots of food that I can't generally afford. Oh! and it's a nice comfortable place to lie down in after all that luxurious hard work. Otherwise, a milliners as making hats would be a lovely pass time.

Probably be a shop with beautiful curtain fabric, damask, velvety tapestry like fabrics! Upholstery fabrics. With all the trimmings you can think of. If there could possibly be medieval fabrics, to make beautiful medieval gowns! I'll make wall hangings, beautiful tablecloths, runners, curtains. Sigh .........

Well, it would have to be a wool shop, sunflower. I would be in seventh heaven with all the fabulous yarns that are around now. Perhaps I could "stow away"? How else am I going to keep up with my hat and scarf orders for Nov 5th??!!

Anywhere with a marvellous food hall would do it for me!
Yes I too would like to be stuck in Selfridges, for once in my life trying on some achingly hip clothes without feeling like there's someone somewhere thinking "oh my goodness, she's going to try on that?!". I would also not mind being stuck in the Beatles shop overnight in Liverpool...as long as I had access to a CD player or something ;)
Actually, I also have a bit of an obsession with the cooking and bake ware dept in John Lewis. But that would be more of a supermarket sweep dream.

I'm going to be the 'grumpy old woman' on this one... I can never envisage a day when I would be so engrossed in a shop that I would be locked in. I hate shopping, have a short attention span so like to browse fairly quickly and then move on to the next thing. Apart from the necessary food shopping, or going to a garden centre, I only spend time in shops browsing - for books, unusual gifts, wools and fabrics - about three or four times a year, for a morning. We have a day out, a picnic (being all-year-round picnickers), visit somewhere beautiful with scenery, wildlife and silence preferably, do the shop browsing bit in the morning first. It's a treaty day, and I am looking forward to having a granddaughter to give treaty days to now as well!

Sounds marvellous Gothfairy! :) (What about being locked in a babyshop with beautiful baby clothes for your granddaughter? Just imagine ....soft nappies.... booties .....baby blankets..... baby powder.......baby toys .....)? :)
gothfairy could you recommend a good wools and fabrics store to me?

Oola... I don't know if this information is going to be any use to you, bearing in mind where you live, but the best fabric store in King's Lynn is Fents, a long-established firm. I usually go out to Taverham near Norwich, to the craft shop there, which is a gorgeous place to be in, so many things to look at. But, they don't carry fabrics suitable for every purpose, and their range of wools isn't extensive. Same for a craft shop in Lynn, where it is even more limited. I have found online stores pretty good, but I guess you are like me and would prefer to actually feel and see the wool etc., before you buy it? We are not best served in Norfolk for wool shops it has to be said... a lottery win and I'll solve that!!

What a fab question Sunflower!
Selfridges or Harrods would be fab for trying out all those luxury products I could never afford and as for the clothes well.... The only thing is can we all be locked in together then it would be more fun like a big girly party, laughing at all those ridicously inpractical designer clothes and egging each other on - especially after we've raided the food hall for goodies and champagne!

Brilliant idea, after the firework party, our next venue could be one of these stores where we all meet up. Try on the clothes, shoes and cosmetics, eat the delicious food a wonderful girlie night out.!

-Serenity, I'm not going to miss this "locked-up-in-shop" party for nothing! Just say when and where and I'm there! We must let the others now. Before Ma Larkin's wedding so that she can join us!

Was thinking the same thing! Why not? In Harrods? Will we have fun or what! I'll tell you one thing, we will be locked away, but in a shop with quite a different name and meaning!!!!!!!!!!!

I always have this dream whilst on a clothes hunting expedition, M&S or Debenhams etc, of being able to try clothes on on the shop floor and have a member of staff putting away the things I don't want. It drives me mad all that queueing for changing rooms, limited number of items each time, then undressing and dressing, going back to look for a different size, going through it all again. I have used mail order in the past, but if the stuff doesn't fit you've got to send it back, and sometimes they charge you for the stuff then give a credit. Fran.
