About twelve months ago I happened upon a pretty cut glass candlestick in a secondhand shop in our town; it was without its partner but so pretty that I bought it regardless. Recently in another town a good 2 hours drive away I found an identical one to make up my pair. I often wonder how the pair was separated and the chances of me finding both. Have you experienced something similar to this? :)

Years ago when I lived in London, I bought a china mug with honeysuckle all around it,it was so pretty but they only had one left. Some time later I came up North where we now live and in the market on the china stall was an array of china mugs just like the one I had previously bought.I now have the pair. I particularly like them because it is said that honeysuckle means 'love's tie'.

Yes, it is so exciting when this hapens isn't it? I posted on another thread that I once was so thrilled to buy a beautiful silk 1930s evening dress in a charity shop, and then went into another charity shop in town and found the matching shoes made in the same silk with low heels and buttons up the sides. I couldn't believe how astounding this was, and just when I was very short of money and desperate to find an outfit for a wedding. I can only imagine that the person who donated the items thought that they would spread the benefit around amongst the charity shops.

Well, I'm still looking to find the other half!!! 6 months ago for 90pence I bought a pink glass 1930's lady leaning back on a fish. I looked it up in the net and the shop had this as their logo!!! anyway, she is part of a 'floating bowl' which I think were popular in Australia. The glass statue stands in the middle of the bowl.....now, can anyone tell me please, what is a floating bowl used for? I'd love to know and keeping my eyes open for her bowl!!

What is it about candlesticks? My brother spent several years searching to replace a broken M&S glass candlestick, finally spied one in the window of an Oxfam shop, price £1. Fran.

I have collected the big jug and bowl sets for years, first I perhaps get the jug then maybe find the bowl and if I'm lucky two po's. I now have about 10 incomplete sets high up on a shelf in my bedroom, they are so pretty and all different colours, also if you can find the set including toothbrush holders they are worth quite a bit. Did you know they had two po's one for the man and one for the lady of the house?

They must have been posh folk, Sheddie, we just had 1 under each bed.

A proper set would have had two franbee and even possibly candlesticks. But we only had one under our bed.

Hi Sunflower, as far as I know, floating bowls were popular here a few years back. Small candles and flowers were floated on top of the water at dinner parties.

Roman women used floating bowls filled with perfumed petals, no doubt before their time it was a source of deodoriser for confined spaces also, and it was quite popular during the Georgian and Edwardian era' as elegant table decoration. That is, according to a book on historical etiqette and the art of entertaining.
