Hi all, well I have just about completed all the packing ready for our move on Monday - all those books, phew! Wouldn't you just believe it but I have run out of boxes and there is just enough stuff to pack for about one more! Worst of all is that my car died completely at the weekend and has to be scrapped, and Andy has our one and only down in the Lakes. So I am stranded in the village without a box and all the neighbours seem to be away on holiday. I have checked internet sites that deliver, but I would have to buy more than 10. Any ideas of how to get another box, or make things stretch?

Have you utilised all suitcases, or try packing a couple of books in each drawer and putting a few softer lighterweight things in a pillowcase or something?
I bet you're really excited, it'll be nice in the Lake District just now.

Hope you find a solution Jazz, and best of luck with the move.
When we moved we had so many boxes that I wrote the numbers in a book in order with a description in the book of exactly what was in them - this was really useful with those boxes filled with odds and ends.
When our stuff finally came out of storage on the day we moved in I stood at the front door in the sunshine directing the removal men and OH by checking their box number then shouting 'box 18' bedroom etc. Felt most efficient !

Hi Jazz, I would like to wish you good luck on Monday, and every happiness in your new home. While it's all very stressfull, it's very exciting. A new beginning, and lots of things to look forward to. Enjoy, and take your time unpacking.

Good luck in your new abode!
In the past, when boxes are scarce I have used wash baskets, log baskets, plastic bins or boxes, washing up bowl, cat basket, bin bags, duvet covers, pillow cases etc. It's also amazing what you can fit under the seats in the car!!!
When we moved last time, I was running short of cases, so I used the entire contents of one (my clothes), to squeeze into all the little gaps in and around our already overloaded car. I had the two dogs in there too (in the car that is...not the case!). Imagine my embarrassment when I let the dogs out on the ferry to stretch their legs, and their scrabbling to get out kicked several pairs of knickers onto the car deck in full view of passing passengers!

Thanks for all your suggestions. I now have laundry basket, some drawers and the weeding bag full! That plus a couple of crisp boxes from the shop has done the job. I have written the contents on each box and the room that they are going to, plus colour codde the rooms, so, hopefully, it should be quite easy when the removal team arrive. I'm so looking forward to the move now, and as today is such a lovely day I have taken some final photos of my garden to take with me. Thanks again, jazz.
Hope all has gone well for you today and you'll be really happy in your new home!

Hi Jazz! A bit late in the day, but I hope the move went without a hitch and that you are at this very moment busy unpacking some of those boxes in your new home! Keep us posted of how it went! See you and happy unpacking! xx

Hi Jazz,
Hope you enjoyed your first night in your new home.
Good luck with the unpacking.
I finally found my little jar of earrings last week, over a year since we moved.
Somehow they'd ended up in an drawer of 'where can I put this' stuff.

Hope you have enjoyed waking up in your new home - I have always found that first morning special - usually in a good way, although heading the wrong way for the bathroom isn't always a good idea. Hope the move went well ,that you've located the kettle/G&T/computer and that you have nice neighbours! Every happiness in your new home, looking forward to hearing about it.

Hope the move went well, despite the box shortage. All the madness and mayhem will soon be forgotten once you're settled. I, like souter girl ,can't wait to hear all about your new digs, and maybe even see a few pictures (says she with some degree of envy).
