It seems that some county councils are banning bonfires on Nov.5th on the basis that smoke causes pollution.Hope they don't get wind of ours or I can see some council officials takeing the place of the 'Guy'
Oh for goodness sake....REALLY.
They should be running campaigns to get people to check their bonfires for hedgehogs instead, much more constructive.

Talk about "nanny state". I'd like to see them try to interfere with ours, Kate. By the sound of it, sheddie's building it so big they'd need every fire engine in the country to douse the flames, and that wouldn't be too good for the environment, would it?!

Here in Tasmania councils are clamping down on wood fires and bonfires to combat pollution yet they leave the biggest polluter (the forestry company) to burn hectares of discarded timber after clear felling of the forest. The smoke from these fires can burn for weeks polluting large areas.
At least a bonfire from good dry waste will burn quickly and efficiently.

What these councils need is some sensible women like ourselves to advise them.I think that en mass,we would make formidable opponents to those currently in office.
You are right sheepy, sheddie is getting really carried away with this bonfire,it's all these nocturnal visits to the site she keeps making.!!! I think she is taking reinforcements tonight and a flask of coffee and sandwhiches!

Can I just implore you all to protect your animals, though I'm sure you will. The fireworks have started here already and timesharepuss is not at all happy. I would prefer it if the councils clamped down on noisy fireworks being let off any old time, and restricted the celebrations to 1 night. Fran.
