Norwich

Hello,
I'm going on a short break to Norwich twixt Christmas and the New Year (for my birthday!:D). Just wondered if anyone knew the area as I have never been before and if anyone has any recommendations for places to eat, visit etc with a well behaved 7yr old boy !

I think my Mum is fairly familiar as she goes up to Norfolk quite a lot to buy bulk onions and potatoes and wotnot. I'll try to remember to ask her for any info...

We used to live close to Norich. The Castle and Cathedral are worth a visit as is Elm Hill, a medieval area of cobbled streets with nice little shops. (wear comfy shoes so as to not turn your ankle). There's a covered mall, plus high street areas with shops like Jarrolds, Debenhams, Marks, BHs, etc. There's a market a couple of days a week, can't remember which weekday, but Saturday too. Sandringham's about an hour away. Holkham Hall a stately home about an hour or so probably too. Not sure how long you plan on staying. It's a lovely town. I'll have a think, see if I can remember any other stuff. Have a lovely stay.

Holkham Hall is nice, mum used to know the gardeners there. They shut the kitchen gardens down after decades and mum was there to help take away some of the plants that were going to be just ripped out and auctioned off. The old boys were very sad to see it go...

Thanks for your ideas.
Elm Hill sounds just the place to while away a winters afternoon especially if there's a nice little coffee shop! We visited Holkham a couple of years ago, the deer in the park were amazing and a walk along the beach there will be just the thing to work off a bit of that christmas indulgence.
I'm getting giddy just at the thought of it!!!

There is a brilliant puppet theatre in Norwich and they have some great shows planned - including for the time you will be here. You can Google the by typing in Norwich Puppet Theatre.
