Ladies, I am sure we have a wealth of those "this is what you do when" type household hints at our disposal. Why not share them? Here's mine.

If you sit on chewing gum (pre chewed:), say on a park bench, the best way to get rid of it is to put the item of clothing in the freezer in a freezer bag. This way the chewing gum freezes rock solid and you can prize it off the fabric without leaving goo behind in the threads. Of course, I suggest you wait until you return from the park before you remove your trousers:p

If you put lemonade in cut flowers they last longer.

Not really random or unusual, but I've really taken to microfibre cloths. They are brilliant at dusting when damp, and you don't need a lot of chemical cleaners, if any, just a bit of elbow grease, which is cheap and 'green'. My daughter uses these cloths, with bicarb or lemon or vinegar for her cleaning. Fran.

Use baby oil to clean and polish stainless steel kitchen splashbacks and surfaces. Makes it easier to clean next time too.

When cleaning the glass window of a wood heater, use a damp cloth or paper towel dipped in the wood ash. Rub over the glass then wipe off residue with a clean cloth. Works like magic.

When training puppies: if they wet on the carpet, blot up with paper towel and then wash with white vinegar. It removes the odour and they are less likely to use the same spot. Spot test your carpet first although I have never had a problem with it discolouring.

Hi, I use a toothbrush (new of course!) to clean around the inside of the dishwasher door and in the corners especially where you cannot reach with a cloth.

White vinegar is good for lots of things ie laundry good as and Anti-bacterial rinse, all purpose cleaning, glass, stainless steel and plastic laminate surfaces, cupboards, china, cloths and sponges I could go on and on.
