I fancy having a go at making Rhubarb wine. Has anyone tried this? If so, what's it like? I imagine it to be like Rose wine. Am I correct? :D

Hi treehugger, I bought a bottle once made by the Cairn O' Mor company and it was like a rose, with a light, dry, sharp taste. I wouldn't mind some more, but have never seen another bottle for sale. Good luck with your making. Sorry I don't have a recipe, but I do have plenty of rhubarb.

Have anyone perhaps tasted the Whisky Liqueur of the Famous Grouse Distillery in Crieff? It first was Glenturret Distillery and it's the oldest whisky distillery in Scotland. It's like nectar - very very nice heathery taste. We've still got a tiny bit left of a bottle we bought two years ago. Don't want to drink the last bit, because then it's finished! x

Haven't tried rhubarb wine Treehugger but a neighbour gave me a bottle of homeMade rhubarb vodka. We've been a bit nervous about trying it just in case it's going to cause a big hangover !

My parents made loads of wine when I was young. Rhubarb was a favouite, blackberry, elderberry, cowslip. I remember a bottle exploding in the washouse. I also remember some merry evenings when the wine was pressed on visitors. I was too young to drink then, but used to sneak a taste.

One day I would love to try and make my own wine. Rhubarb sounds wonderful. It's funny but, I cannot stand wine that is sold in the supermarkets, but home made or small companies that produce wine I love. I think it is because I like tasting the source of the wine, for example blackcurrant, which is seriously yummy. Good luck with the Rhubarb wine. I can imagine that, as well as tasting nice will also look lovely...especially in candlelight!

rhubarb wine sounds lovely. got very excited watching river cottage last night when they made elderflower champagne. it looked so fabulous and we have elderflowers at the bottom of the garden but we are about to move and decided trying to transport oodles of fermenting flowers might not be such a great idea.

Well, OH woke up yesterday morning and said 'right, I've got a treat for you today.' I got all excited wondering what was going on. I asked what I should wear, should I do my hair etc etc and he just replied that I should shove my jeans on and not do anything special. I was intrigued! We got in the car and he drove me to town and took me to a shop where they sell wine making equipment. He explained that I had been whittering on about making wine for the last week, so to prevent me from 'whineing' any more he was going to buy me all of the kit to start making my own wine. So the result was that yesterday evening I had a tub of rhubarb covered in sugar in the corner of the kitchen and this morning I have added oodles of boiling water to it. It now has to be left for a week then the exciting stuff starts with the addition of yeast to help it ferment. I will let you all know how it goes on! It smells divine though. All sugary and rhubarby! :D
