Eleanor how are you progressing with this? I have a copy in the bookcase, unread as yet. Is it worth the read?

sir walter elliot is a pompous vain man. his vanity and superiority complex has transcended down to his eldest daughter elizabeth. they live a selfish indulgent life whilst poor anne stays home pampering her younger sister who is married. and listenig to bad advice off her neighbour and family friend. she rejects the one person who would show her unconditional love and care. poor anne lives her life looking after and caring for others.whilst her own life is empty and dull.void of true emotions for herself. chapter 2 tonight maybe. hottentuft says theres a bit of good reading coming.

well sir walter elliot is a real snob.he even thinks people with freckles are inferior. elizabeth the eldest daughter is spoilt.she thinks only of herself. louisa the youngest is married. she is a bit pampered and hypochondriacle.i think her hubby goes out just for a bit of peace and quiet.now anne the middle daughter who the story is all about. is kind and caring.she thinks of others needs.even to the detriment of herself.her father and sir walter have gone to stay in bath.renting out there house.because he is in debt by overspending on appearances and good living. ann is flitting between lady russels and loisa.she must feel like she doesn't really belong anywhere at the moment.things are about to change for her however....

sorry annes younger sister is mary not louisa.ann is now staying at her sister mary.here she is kept very busy keeping the peace.they visit the big house often.the musgroves a re wealthy aristocrats. ann reflects on the fact that since her mother died she has had no-one to make her feel special.no-one to praise her accomplishments.except for a short interlude with her nearly fiance captain wentworth.every-one just seems to take her for granted.

Sorry, I still haven't started on this, but it is tucked into my travel bag. Are you enjoying it more now, at one time you weren't real keen?

summer skye i am just getting into it.i am amazed at the extent of the snobbery.when you get back.you will have to give us a full recall how you see the book.

i am feeling a bit sorry for anne at the moment.captain wentworth is being adored by all the women.he is now rich as well as handsome and an admirable personality.it is obvious ane is still in love.she has to watch helplessly as the other women swoon over him and wonder will he fall in love with another.

i have now got to the heart rending bit.we get a description of captain benwick.a man who is sick and frail from a heart broken.the woman he had worked and lived for had died whilst he was at sea.this man now survived a empty life and lost love.yet anne described her condition as worse than his.for he was younger and could heal and fal in love with another.poor anne is she showing just how much she is in love.hinting that she will never fall in love with another.

finding this the hardest jane austin book to read.i love jane austin but this book seems full of politeness and decorum more than usual.anne obviously feels unloved by her father and older sister.taken for granted by her younger.anne does not relish her visit to bath.but then finds interest in her cousin young mr elliot. i think they have a bit of a flirt.yet deep down i know she is in love with captain wentworth.her heart is only for him. they are building up a new liking and mutual respect for each other.so whatever young elliots plans are they will fail.there is only one man for our anne.

well persuasion is hotting up. love is in the air. captain wentworth and anne are both in bath. the flames of love are rekindling.i can just imagine their hearts fluttering as they catch glimpses of each other and manage to snatch little chats together.

at last i can see jane austin at work.the begining was so slow and polite.i just couldn't get into the story.now i can sense true feelings and emotions.anne is suffering much discomfort being in such close proximity of the man she loves.at the same time being courted by a man she does not trust.she finds out for good reason .there are all sorts of rumours flying around.she has to make sense of them and somehow convey to captain wentworth her true feelings.a woman today would just go up to the man and make it clear.in those days it was weeks of polite talk, decorum and accidental meetings.

i read captain wentworths love letter to anne last night.it bought tears to my eyes.the book is worth reading just to get to this chapter.the emotions of love between two people.kept apart for over 8 years.in all that time being madly in love and having no hope.then all of a sudden to both share their love and a relationship rekindled.

well i have finished the book.what a romantic end. jane austin bought out powerful emotions from both the mans point and the womens. they had both obviously spent many lonely years, pining for each other.neither being able to form an attachment with another person.love won in the end.... thank goodness

I'm glad you enjoyed it eleanor2. I've just re-read it (I've decided to re-read all my Jane Austens) and find it excellent. I don't mind the slow start as it is really setting scene of society in those days. It is said to be Jane Austen's most satirical book.
