Have you ever had your hair done and been totally disappointed in the result .I may be almost 69 but always take pride in my hair and try to keep it fashionable. [I'm told I am a with it nan] .I had my hair cut last week and it looks a mess to me not at all how I like it to be. She cut such a little bit off but think she picked it up just anywhere and cut hence no shape at all to it .
I have now booked in somewhere else and hope it can be sorted out again as it is really depressing me.

I have really thick hair that's quite hard to manage and stick with the same hairdresser even though she only works one day a week because she seems to cut it so well.
When you find someone you like, Dinger, stick with them!

Thats the big problem finding somewhere you like .My last hairdresser was brilliant but gave it up so it's all down to chance and when you have been pleased with the one before it is hard getting used to someone else and scary letting them cut as once off can't be put on again .

I am in the process of changing my hair in that I am growing it all the same length and not having any more perms. It has taken me a while to come round to the idea, but I have a hairdresser who is encouraging me and she cuts it well to start with,so I guess I stand a chance of succeeding.Sorry you had a disastrous haircut dinger, somehow it seems so final when someone makes a mess of it with scissors! and it seems to take ages to grow it again so that someone else can try and improve the situation.Hope the next experience gives a better result.

It's such a disappointment when looking foward to go the hairdresser, just for it not to work out in the end! Why is that they sometimes they just won't do what us as clients ask for? I've got very straight hair, and it's not the thickest you can find also, and on top of that, it grows like no one will ever believe! I'm forever at the hairdresser's! What a palava!

Katelb, my daughters been today and we went to the supermarket, I'm not kidding you these youngsters it's a job to keep up with them, I was nearly running! She was reading all the labels and so organised and she cooked me a fatless roast.Off she went then in her BSM car visiting friends and then off back to Birmingham - she gets so much done in a day. Hope your hair is growing ok. ready for your new style, can't wait to hear the outcome.

Hi! Dinger, it is disappointing when a hairdresser cuts your hair the wrong way, but sometimes a hairband or a few nice clips can work wonders until it grows enough to get it cut again somewhere else. A good tip in finding a hairdresser is to ask a woman in the street who has a haircut that you really like where she got her's done. No-one minds, and are generally really flattered that someone asked. I'll be doing it soon as my usual hairdressers has just turned into a big swanky beauty parlour and I don't fancy going there anymore. I always opt for a chin length bob which is easiest to manage, and am keeping the grey for the same reason. Good luck, dinger. I admire a woman who has the confidence to cut her own hair, eleanor2.

Can't imagine you as a 'hoodie' sheddie!! I thought you might be getting a fashion statement to go with your red coat!!How about a Beefeater style hat? or would that clash with your coat!

Hair is growing down nicely and I'm slowly learning to manage it,and even beginning to like it.

it's not going anywhere that's the point of her encouragement with the fatless roast and supermarket guidance about carbs etc. This is the first time in my life I just cannot get motivated and I don't feel good about it!thanks for asking by the way!!

Hairdressers.. I could write pages. Since moving here over 8 years ago I have tried so many different hairdressers and am convinced that once you reach "a certain age" the young ones think it doesn't really matter how your hair looks. After all who is going to notice you. I always say "please don't cut the top short as it will stick up" and what happens.. short top. A few years ago I persevered and grew it longer (below chin bob) and was happy enough but then foolishly had it cut again in a moment of weakness!! Back to square one, am starting to grow it again. Maybe with the move I will find a good hairdresser. The colour is mine, I was blonde and my hair has turned a nice ash/platinium colour which is one consolation.

Thats exactly it Summersky she has done just the same to me .it has taken so long to let it grow almost one length as I have that trouble with the crown and that is where she has gone scissor happy .By the way I didn't mention a certain person in a red coat recommended her I think she had been hitting the Brrrrr with her before she cut my hair..

I used to have a hell of a time with my hair - mind of it's own. It wanted to go in one direction on both sides of my head and I used to battle to keep it straight. But relief came in the form of my hair straighteners! The slim Babyliss ones are absolutely brilliant, i spray a little heat protection spray on it when it's wet and then blow dry my hair, and straighten. It makes it straight but so much more manageable.

Katelb
14-10-2007, 10:03 AM
My daughter keeps trying to persuade me to try her straightenersOola but I haven't the nerve---yet---! I like just a bit of bounce in the crown area cos being vertically challenged, it does give just a little height now that it has no perm left.

Oola
14-10-2007, 10:09 AM
Well the best way to achieve that is to dry your hair starting with the roots. You could even try blow drying your hair upside down and then straighten it afterwards. Honestly, hair straighteners aren't scary at all... you'll be amazed at the results. The only thing is that they will make your hair appear flatter and finer, so you'll definitely need to give some va-va-voom with the upside down blowdrying.

Katelb
14-10-2007, 11:00 AM
Thanks Oola, she actually suggested I tried that as well!!! I have to wash my hair soon so I'll give it a go.The results should keep my OH amused if nothing else!!

Oola
14-10-2007, 11:19 AM
You could also try using mousse when your hair is wet, it'll help hold the volume when it's dry. Try rough drying your hair - comb it first, put the mousse in and then use your fingers to dry it. Might get a bit knotty but should be able to comb it out afterwards. The straighten and voila!

jazzactivist
14-10-2007, 11:45 AM
I always blowdry my straight bob upside down and it works wonders for the volume on top. You could just add a bit of mousse to the roots of the crown area before you do it to add even more. Then brush as normal.

Katelb
14-10-2007, 12:55 PM
Many thanks all you kind people helping me,I sometimes use mousse so I'll try all these ideas and tell you what happens,I'm off to give them a trial run soon !!

Katelb
14-10-2007, 05:00 PM
Well I followed your advice Oola and jazzactivist and the result is really quite encouraging! quite a bit of extra bounce with the mousse and the upsidedown stunt! so thanks ladies,I will perfect the technique as it looks as though I'm stuck with growing my hair.

I had a bad hair nightmare the day I got married! Had my hear done earlier during the week to see if everything will work out with the veil etc. Come Saturday morning, I had to hear the hairdresser who was supposed to do my hair, slammed her thumb in her car door the previous night and couldn't do anything with this hand! The poor male hairdresser had to take over my hair, my mum's and female relatives, plus all his own clients! Nervous breakdowns were lurking in that salon the whole of the morning, I can tell you! My hair didn't work out quite as planned, but wasn't to bad eventually. :D

My hair is very fine and very short. And my husband cuts it for me. I got so fed up of going to hairdressers and being given the style they thought I should have and not the style I wanted; I used to come home disgruntled and he would get the scissors and sort it out for me, so we decided that he did a better job (he is a designer!) and I stopped going to the hairdresser. I've also stopped dyeing it as I started to react to the dye (my scalp itched and itched and itched). So now I use gentle shampoos and it's its natural short wavy/curly self (about 3 inches all over so that the waves and curly can't totally take over).

You might to have to have it cut even shorter Dinger, to correct the bad cut - that's how I first came to really short hair and I decided I liked it and everone said how it suited me. So in spite of trying it long again, I've gone back to my old short cut.

Hi Oola, just thought I would tell you that I have just tried using my daughter's straighteners........what a disaster! I think it is safe to say I don't have the knack!! no self respecting dog would take me out for a walk looking like this!!.Thankfully, they she and her husband are up this weekend so she can give me a much needed lesson in the use of them!!

Pleased to hear it Dinger. I will try and persevere with mine a bit longer;if it drives me completely batty I will probably take the scissors to it one night. At least here those 'messy, stick out everywhere' cuts are fashionable at the moment.

Aah thanks Kate! What a brilliant idea! And don't worry, I'll be just as nice to her too! :)

Hi eleanor, smart I won't say, but I try me best to keep it tidy, not to old fashioned, but not to way out modern as well. As SummerSkye said, "messy, stick out everywhere" styles are quite fashionable these days. Speaking of which, I wonder what my grandmother would've said about these styles of today - she'll probably hand out combs and brushes to the youngsters with orders to comb their hair!!!
