I have a list of people I know, all written in a book
and every year at Christmas time, I go and have a look,
and that is when I realise, that those names are a part,
not of the book they are written in, but of my heart.
For each name stands for someone,
who has crossed my path sometime, and in that meeting
they've become a treasured friend of mine.
And once you've met some people, the years cannot erase
the memory of a pleasant word or of a friendly face.
So when I send a Christmas card that is addressed to you,
it's because you're on the list of folk I am indebted to.
You are one of the many folk who in times past I have met,
and you happen to be one of those I never want to forget.
And whether I have known you, for many years or few,
in some way you have a part, in sharing things I do.
This is the Spirit of Christmas, that forever and ever endures,
may it leave its richest blessing in the heart of you and yours,
Have a very Happy Christmas.

I found this page tucked away in one of my books, unfortunately the author is not shown. I thought it appropriate for all my friends on Rural Muse with Christmas coming close.

how fantastic.every christmas i write to all my old friends and relatives that i dont see much .reading that poem has made me see how lovely it is to show people you care about them.last year my old nursing friend wrote me a lovely letter back.saying how much she appreciated that i had written to her every christmas since i had left work.my old school friends share things sometimes that surprise.one friend wrote back and told me how she had always thought how blessed i was to have such a big happy family and she'd sometimes felt jealous. i laughed and wrote back.how i had always loved going her house because it was quiet.she had her own bedroom and she had her own record player.i thought she was so lucky.

Jennifer that is lovely and words so very true .good friends are hard to find these days so to let the ones you have know how much they are valued is the nicest kindest thought.

What a lovely poem SummerSkye and it reflects the value of good friends so well.I think it is the one time of year when you can remember your friends who perhaps you don't see too often and it is also good to receive cards and keep up with the news year by year.

I really love the verse, SummerSkye. I get more and more jaded about the whole Christmas thing as the years go by, but I always send lots of cards and really value keeping in touch with old friends and new.
