wondered if anyone had read about the chicken who laid an 8 inch egg almost as big as a tennis ball .it was 4inches long 8inches round and weighed 7.4oz it is more than twice the size if a gooses egg . ouch !!!! This hen is in Cornwall and the story is in todays Sun Newspaper with a picture .[pge 11]

If you wish to adopt any hens which have been released from battery farming look on the One Show shown on BBC tonight it was in the programme about this .

I heard about that, sounds a bit painful.... Ouch
Got to be careful because over sized eggs can be a trigger for sterile egg yolk peritonitis where they lay the yolks internally. Yoko is a big old bird, but she used to lay humongous eggs and I'm sure that's partly why she got her EYP. Big eggs can also cause prolapse in the chicken where they strain so hard their bottoms pop out - not good! Let's hope it was a one off, or a chicken with a very big bottom!!!

My May had a prolapse a few weeks back, but so far all is well at the bottom region!
