I had a Gyn checkup last week and the doctor thought it a good idea for me to try a little estrogen. She's prescribed the lowest dose of estriodal (sp) to help with night sweats and just sweating in general.
I prefer to go the natural route and already take evening primrose oil and black cohash. It's only been a week, but I don't like how the hormone replacement makes me feel. I take it at night, but I'm experiencing headaches, and odd sort of aches and tightness in my chest. When I wake up in the morning I feel like I have a hangover :( , really foggy. Has anyone else had similar experience?

Hi Eleanor, I took them for a week, then took myself off them. The pains in my head really troubled me. I think I would really rather put up with the sweats and try and cope with them with more natural herbal supplements.
One thing that came out of the Dr's visit was that some blood work showed my glucose levels were high and that I'm pre-diabetic. I have an appointment to see an endocrinologist when I get back from England. I'm looking at my diet, though I do eat healthily cook just about everything from scratch, don't eat crisps, etc. or drink sodas, (I've given up chocolate :( ) but I've been doing a look of reading up lately and there's a lot of info. out there about how much food is messed with, added to etc. our bodies were just meant to eat lean berries, fruits, veggies, meat, fish which fed on the natural environment, not loads of corn etc. to fatten them up, which in turn fattens people up. I don't each much meat at all really, but since moving here in 2000 I've gone from being active to quite sedentary, so that plays a large part in it. My Dr. said menopause usually causes about 10lb weight gain - well gained gained a lot more than that unfortunately. Everyone's different, some people really seem to benefit from the hormones, for me I'm choosing to go the more natural route. Let me know what you think.

hi kd, i had to have a hysterectomy when i was thirty six, i was put straight on hrt as soon as i came round from the op. i had to stop them about six weeks before having my hole in the heart closure op and had a try of the natural route remedy, like you i suffered headaches and nausea. not nice. as soon as i had my heart closure i was put straight back on hrt by the hospital. i swear by it.you have done the right thing seeing your g.p. i still get hot flushes sometimes but i swear by the hrt. also i an a diabetic and this on its own can make you feel pretty rough so make sure you keep drinking plenty of water. its a very good idea your doctor sending you to see an endicrinologist as they are the experts on hormonal problems. let me know how you get on. xx
