View Full Version : Feedback
I would be very grateful if members could give me feedback with their thoughts and suggestions for the website.
We are currently toiling with the idea of changing the server for the website, but if the site doesn't appear to be slow or problems with loading of pages, this won't be necessary.
Please do keep me up to date with how you are getting on with the new forum.
Thanks!

So far so good Oola and much quicker than CL. My only problem was my avatar and that is now fine and I can't think of anything else that I have problems with! A question though - are you going to keep the calendar up to date or can we add suggestions?
Hi Mandy - at the moment the calendar has three uses:
As administrator, I can add public events that will appear to everyone, but no one else can add these.
You can use the calendar for your own private use, and only you'll be able to see the events.
If people have added in their birth date, I think that these appear on the calendar and on the forum and is viewable by everyone. You can just put in your day and month of your birth date to hide your age.
I'll have a look in the admin, but I think I can enable forum members to add dates to the calendar. I wouldn't have a problem with it as long as the calendar doesn't get overrun with dates! If you would like this to be enabled, just let me know and I'll look into it.

I was just thinking of dates like December 6th, which means something in mainland Europe (St Nicholas Day) that you might not bother with. Other people probably have other dates the rest of us aren't so sure about and we could learn a bit about other traditions that way - I wouldn't put personal things on a public calendar though!
I can do custom holidays on the calendar, so if you give me the dates you want added in I think I can put them in for you.

Right, I'll rack my brain. Not that I can forget December 6th as the shops are full of chocolates, tangerines and nuts attached to switches (bunches of twigs). And there are special baked goodies in the village bakery. But I think St. Nicholas day is a good one for the calendar as it's in other countries as well. Also perhaps, for holidaymakers, days like national days - I always feel sorry for tourists wandering round and finding all the shops shut on August 1st here! If they knew it was National Day and the shops were shut, they wouldn't be so disappointed. Perhaps others can come up with other dates and then Oola, as administrator, can decide which ones she thinks are relevant.
oola i am a bit concerned for people like katelb and sheepyjames etc.as anyone got thier e-mail address.just to let them know.i have managed get through to a few.who are coming to have a look.
You might have noticed those that don't have their email enabled have been messaged by me on CL (I've tried to be very subtle so as not to appear to be poaching!) about using both this and the CL forum.
I noticed Katelb has messaged dinger so I wondered whether dinger would be able to ask Katelb to email her and then introduce her to this site? I would still love to get Sheepyjames on board too so if anyone could ask her to email them too that would be great! I have messaged henryscat as she's posted quite a bit on the latest antics, but haven't heard from her yet.
Anyone else got any suggestions as to who might like to join?

On the CL forums we can click on the Forum list at the bottom or the top. Possible on this site?

Many thanks for setting up this site, Oola. I find it faster than the CL one, and definately a lot friendlier in design and content. There is potential to develop too eg ads for small rural businesses which I know many people who use this site have, and also a page for house sales, and perhaps even an artists' and craft makers' gallery. I am sure that advertisers will expect to pay a sensible fee for listings in these and this can help with your costs, and will enable those of us looking to buy direct access.
I think that including significant dates in the calender for celebrations in different countries is a great idea.

I like the site very much and there are a few familiar names popping up each day. It is good to log on and know you are not going to be abused or bullied. Thankyou very much.

It's quite simply BRILLIANT! Much, much quicker than CL.
I did have a little trouble getting here as my computer kept saying it couldn't find the server but my computer does have a mind all of its own!
I can see that I won't be getting much work done today - again!!

This also has a good community feel, I can see I will have to restrict my time on here, never get anything done. It is raining here in the South West so maybe a day of inside jobs which will included checking on here every so often.

Hi Oola, just registered about 5 mins ago, having a browse around the site,I noticed that the time is an hour slow!!!! on the members list page ,it doesn't bother me in the slightest but just thought I would mention it.Very well done for getting all this up and running,CL now obliterated from my favourites and this in it's place .Thanks . Kate
Hi Katelb! Welcome to the board!
Yes I had noticed that it's running on GMT instead of BST! I did initially look to change the setting in the admin control panel but got sidetracked by something else. I'll change it if I can find the setting, but I'll need to note down on the calendar when the clocks go back (can't believe soon we'll be plunged into darkness at 5pm).
Also Mandy - I noted your request for a drop-down menu at the top of the forums and will try and get that implemented asap.
Thanks all!

Hi Oola, I was wondering about ellen1 of New Zeeland? Haven't seen her for quite a long time on CL. The time difference may be a problem, because they're 9 hours ahead of us, (1o hours ahead of you guys in the UK). Thanks, Crocus.

Hi Oola, I think your site is wonderful. It is easy to find my way around and it is faster than CL site; also showing the right time for my part of the world. Nice to be able to post without stressing over nasty replies.

Oola perhaps one day you will do a magazine to go with this forum, as I know you are good at writing and all country matters. Perhaps just a small one that isn't all adverts and not as expensive. maybe a thought for the future as I know you are always toying with different ideas and just look at what you have achieved in such a short time!

Oola, not sure how to get a subtitle in the bold print which some have put at the top of their posts,eg.dinger wrote 'Feedback' at the top of her post above.Sorry to be a dumbo.
Hi katelb
You're not a dumbo! Some things are not always clear: -
Basically if you're using the Quick Reply feature (the little icon in the right hand corner of each post) you'll probably use the Quick Reply each time you post. Using this means that you don't get the chance to put the little subtitle in.
But if you reply using the 'post reply' button (green button on the bottom left hand of each thread), it will bring up a box that you can type out your reply in, with a subject title, just as if you were starting a new topic for the first time. This title will appear as the bold subtitle you mentioned.
Hope this helps!
