Depending on what part of the country you are thinking of going too there are so many nice places in the UK. I am also taking a summer break in this country instead of going abroad this year, lets hope the weather stays good.
I have not yet decided where we are yet, but it may be the Cornish Coast and rent a cottage.
That sounds right up my street eleanor2, where abouts in anglsey
You might like to look at National trust cottages- on their website-they have lots in Cornwall, many near the coast a should be of a reasonable standard.www.nationaltrust.org.uk

I know that this is a bit naughty of me, but my parents have some BEAUTIFUL cottages near Windermere in the Lake District. They are converted stables and are just for two with their own pretty little gardens complete with chiminea outside. They spent a bomb refurbishing them last year so inside is up to date and perfect as well. They don't advertise much as they get so full with repeat bookings. I would highly recommend them. their website is www.theheaning.co.uk, but the images on there are a bit old and they are having a new website sorted out this year. Hope no one minds me posting this, but I seriously wouldn't do if I thought that they were grotty in any way!

We camped at Treaddur Bay on Anglesey, that was quite a country area.
We are going to whitstable and staying in a beach cottage, hopefully we will have a good time not going till august.
