Although cold and rainy today we sat enjoying lunch looking at to sea in a lovely new eatery at the beach. We received enormous brown paper cones filled with beautiful crispy crumbed Trevalla fish and home style chips. The cappucino was good and strong with a decorative pattern on the creme. As a food critic I would have given top marks for both the food and service. :)

Yesterday I had slow roasted lamb with roasted root vegetables, followed by a plum sponge pudding with custard.
Today I have Shepard Pie.

For lunch - I had paw paw (papaja) and half slice of delicious brown seed bread with a touch of peanut butter!
For supper - carrot, coriander and tomato soup with crispy bread. Sons don't like soup so they'll have fish and whatever comes to mind by that time!

Yesterday we went out and had a traditional Swiss meal (see today's blog). Today I came back down to earth and had my usual lunch, known as "what's to eat up in the fridge". This translated into fried rice containing more vegetables and bacon than rice. And an apple. It was very nice.
We have our main meal in the evening as husband and son (who lives here during the working week) both have sandwich lunches; tonight we're having Venison Hubertus, which is an Austrian dish containing schnapps. We'll have that with Spatzli, which are like tiny egg dumplings fried in butter (traditional with venison here) and some red cabbage.

I was interested to see Eleanor call her meals 'dinner' and 'tea', a typical northern terminology that we also use.
So for my 'dinner' I had my usual green salad with a slice of cold roast ham (roasted last night for 'tea' with root veg), plus a low fat yogurt. Fran.

Do you, Eleanor, or anyone else know the term 'baggins'? The farmers used to use it for what we might call 'elevenses', or the afternoon tea-break. Don't know where it comes from, but they used to take a flask of tea and a scone or piece of cake in a bag when they were working across the fields, or just for a break before milking. Fran.

I always do a Rrrrr Stewart at 3pm whenever possible, most days! Have tea and a digestive biscuit, sometimes I make a small pot of tea in a pretty roses teapot with matching cup and saucer.I feel ever so slightly civilized then.

Hi, I would also like to know:
When is supper;
when is dinner;
when is tea.
Thanks xx
:)
Today, hubs and me had Pizza at a nice little restaurant in neighbouring village!

Depends where you live, Crocus. In the north of England, dinner was a cooked meal at midday, and tea was around 6pm. Sometimes you had supper as well, the most popular one being a 'chip supper' from the chip shop, if you had a chip shop nearby. We tend to call it lunch and tea, and 'supper' is only ever a drink and snack. Confused? You'll need to keep a grip on it all when you come over. Fran.

Hi it seems so eh? Confused I am. We have breakfast, morning tea at 10-ish, then lunch, a coffee break at about 4 in the afternoon and then supper/dinner in the evening.

Well of course, there's morning coffee (mid morning) and afternoon tea at 4ish, which is sandwiches, scones, cakes with a pot of tea. This can be a special treat often served in hotels, or cafes. Now High Tea is the one served at 6pm, and is often something like a ham salad with bread and butter, a dessert such as a trifle or jelly, and a piece of cake, or maybe fish and chips, with bread and butter, and always pots of tea. Can anyone add any more? Fran.

We have morning coffee, lunch, and what my husband calls tea and I call dinner or supper in the evening. For my mother dinner is at lunch time s when I talk to her I call my dinner an evening meal! It is confusing Crucus because it really depends on where you live. If you are invited for tea in the north, prepare for something like ham and eggs or fish and chips. If you are invited for tea in the south, expect dainty sandwiches, scones and cakes.
