Oola, I presume that Google Spider who is sometimes listed in the members list (as a guest?) is collecting info for Google, where we can find our entries and blogs? Fran.

Hi franbee....the googlebot has been all over the website recently, although I haven't seen it in the last couple of days. As the blogs are part of the website, it will collect info from there too. However I'm quite sure that if your blog is set to private, it won't return any information from them to the search engine results.

It won't find anything for my blogs, cos I aint done none! Googlespider was looking just now.

I've been trying to get a definitive answer to the above post, but for some reason my computer is being a pain in the backside and won't log onto anything but this site (must be the cache or something).

I'll try and get back to you with some evidence to back up my previous post...

Not that I'm particularly concerned, but my postings from this and other sites are on Google. I was just curious, that's all. Fran.

Well the Googlespider has spent ages looking at the calendar, bit of a waste of time there.

Sounds creepy and scary to me - don't know either.

A googlespider or googlebot is just a bit of programming designed to gather information for google. It basically just feeds information back to the search engine so that when a search is done, it can return all the information from cyberspace.

Think of this website as a new planet in (cyber)space - the googlebot or googlespider is like an explorer spaceship sent out to collect information from the new planet that has just appeared. It then returns to it's hub and disseminates all the information it's collected into the database!

And yes, I am a bit of a Star Trek fan!

HI kate, you just go to the Quick Links drop down menu at the top of the forum, and there's an option to see 'Who's Online'. It then shows you who's viewing what on the forum. Google spider is usually lurking around as is Yahoo's Slurp spider. They're just bits of programming gathering info :)
