Hi all, I remember buying two bumper annual copies of the Mother Earth News when I was a teenager and loved them to bits as they were so alternative. There were so many ideas, suggestions, recipes, items to make, things to do, all wrapped up in the original hippy / back to nature / homesteading credo. I thought that I would have a look on the internet to see if I can get any back copies, and lo and behold the magazine is still around, but is now more of a permaculture / renewables type mag. However, it still looks very interesting and there is lots of interesting stuff on the website. If you would like a look the link is

Hi Jazz, thanks for this link - very interesting stuff indeed, especially the "TAP the sun".
We've got so much sun here, it's worth looking into it.

Hi crocus, yes with all that hot sun in SA you could overcome the power supply problems and have all your electricity and hot water for free if you installed solar power. Definately worth thinking about, as it is now more affordable to get it installed too.
Looks great, do they deliver to the UK or have a UK version though?

Yes, and with all the wind, a wind turbine or two might just help us out of this electricity mess!

The Mother Earth Magazine looks really interesting. I'm wondering if they might sell it at our large Borders in town, as they do seem to have alot of magazines that you do'nt find in other shops. So I will look next time I'm down there. Recently, someone told me of another magazine that looks interesting. It's called Home Farmer and has it's own website.

Hi all, I have never seen Mother Earth News in the UK, but Borders may have it as they stock a lot of US titles. There is a page for overseas subscribers on the website, so I'll be having a look too to see if it can be shipped to the UK for a reasonable cost. The equivalent here is probably Permaculture magazine, but it isn't as wide ranging as M.E.N. seems to be.
