Since changing to Broadband I have had problems sending and receiving emails, it works for a while then goes wrong again. We have spent so much time ringing Technical Support and getting nowhere. So if anyone is sending emails to me on my own email I am not able to recieve them again or send any. What a pain!!! Don't know what we are going to do next.

What sort of problem do you have with the emails specifically?

Hi Oola after going on broadband their technical support helped us to set up all the email a/cs on our computor and they worked fine for a while, but now when we go onto outlook express we can't send or receive emails owing to an error box stating that the server has failed. They think it could be something to do with our anti virus checker which is AVG. The server Madasafish suggested that we disable temporarily the AVG but we don't know how to do this after checking on their website.Because AVG is a free internet download we haven't been able to work out how to contact them.We can't get any further help from technical support until Wednesday. We'd be glad of any help. many thanks sheds X

Rich doesn't think it'll be AVG (which isn't free, only the trial period is free), but you can try disabling it. There should be a small icon made up of 4 little coloured squares that you right click on (we have AVG so I'll attach a pic of the icon) and you select 'Quit Control Centre'. Hopefully this should turn it off and then you can try running your emails again. Just so you know I'll move this thread to the TroubleShooting section soon :) x

Poor you sheddie,I had that palava for a while when I had my laptop, and my son-in-law dissabled some of the security systems I had on the laptop because he said that one fights the other in effect and it slows the whole thing down. One antivirus device should be sufficient really; I must say it worked better when there was less on it.

Hi Oola and Rich, Barry thanks you for the info, he can now see how to disable the AVG but as we only have the one virus checker he can't see that it can be that either. But he will still have to talk to TS on Wednesday and if they suggest disabling it then he will at least now know what to do.Thanks again S & B

Katelb thanks for your reply, hope to be working soon it is so frustrating. X

I'll cross fingers for it to be sorted out Sheds. What does your service provider say?

Hi Sheddie, I had the same problem last year and nearly went crazy. I was having problems with Broadband, and suddenly I couldn't send or get emails.Their technical people told me they were having problems, and had me change my settings for Outlook Express twice without success, and were most unhelpful. They said it was my computer. and there was nothing they could do. There was nothing wrong with my computer.. Then, as a last resort, I rang my email people,(Indigo)and they said the settings on Outlook Express were totally wrong and helped me reset them, and I never had a problem since. It was so frustrating, as I can't be without my email, so I know how you feel. Then I got a bill for 19 Euro from Technical support, which needlessly I refused to pay. I use AVG and find it great. Good luck.
