A little bi-carbonate of soda in water . Drink plenty of fluid to flush out. Also cranberry juice as Oola said is very good.

Yes, Sheds, I have a good tip that I have used on and off for many years and successfully recommended to others. It tastes foul, but eases the problem within 30 mins. Get your daughter to drink a full glass of warm water to which has been added 1 heaped teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda and mix well (it can be sweetened with a small amount of sugar or honey, but still tastes horrible). Then follow this with another glass of plain warm water. She should feel her bladder ease within 30 mins. Keep it going by drinking a glass of warm water with 1 teaspoon bicarb every hour. Try not to pee immediately so that it has the chance to do its work and calm the bladder, but once it has eased then drink as much warm water as possible and pee, pee, pee. It works very well to drink a final glass of warm bicarb water before bed, so that it rests in the bladder over night. It might be that your daughter doesn't need to see the doctor after all. I hope that this tip helps and she is soon on the road to recovery.

Lemonade is the answer because it contains sodium bicarbinate. You have to drink lots of the stuff but definately works. Cranberry juice encourages the bladder to empty if you have retention, so I would avoid it for this condition. The sodium bicarbinate, together with pain killers will calm the condition down.

Ladies if you ever get this you can buy some satchets called canestan oasis which should clear it up in two days if taken straight away with cranberry juice. daughter has it chronic GP said and has to go for kidney tests, but it is a bit easier after taking these sachets. X

Sheddie, the bicarb in warm water method is exactly the same as these sachets, and cheaper and more easily available. It doesn't have the lemony taste, but you can regulate the amount of bicarb yourself. Ask her to give it a try.

Poor thing. I remember it too Sheddie, cystitus can be such a painful and debilitating experience, especially if it starts affecting your kidneys. I hope that it soon clears up and your daughter feels top of the world soon.

I'm definitely going to try this lemonade tip. I don't get cystitus a lot, but it is quite an uncomfortable situation.
