View Full Version : Got My New Glasses

Well I picked up pair one of two new pairs of glasses I've had made recently (loving Specsavers two for one deal). They're rather jaunty, a sort of aquamarine on the inside and a dark royal blue on the outside with tiny lime green stripes at the end (will photograph so they don't sound so hideous!). Rich says they make me look like a 'proper writer' - I'll take that as a complement thanks!

I've been wearing them on and off since yesterday, and boy do my eyes feel rested. After I'd picked them up I went into a Costa to get a nice hot chocolate. Rich had wandered off down the street, and I looked out the window to see him walking back up towards me, with all of his features in clear view. It was a bit of a shock, I didn't realise how blurry things had become. I guess I had just got used to it.

I also drove over to my sister's last night through country lanes and then a busy town in the dark. I took a wrong turning and did a hude detour, but luckily because I had my glasses on, I could see the road names. Beforehand I was reluctant to drive at night because road signs were really difficult to see until they were relatively close.

I can't believe the difference it's made. I haven't had a 'tension' headache yet and my eyes haven't felt so incredibly tired. If you haven't been for a while, I thoroughly recommend getting your eyes tested.

Oola do you need them for distance and close up on the computor? I'm really going to try with mine now. X

I'm short-sighted sheds, so I need them for driving, watching tv, seeing things clearly far away. However, I also find they relax my eyes when I'm on the computer. I think it might be because when I look away from the screen my eyes don't struggle to readjust to looking in the 'distance'.

Yes give your glasses a go, I think of mine as a very useful accessory ;)

I think Oola's a bit young for varifocals, it's usually the over 40's!

No I'm shortsighted so no varifocals for me. However my sister is wired up quite strangely and has one long-sighted eye and one short-sighted eye. I tried her glasses on the other day and almost fell over.

I wear glasses and have two pairs. Varifocals for distance (actually due to astigmatism is mid- distance that is the problem and not long distance) and reading and for work I wear computer glasses, which are also varifocals and can be used for close work and reading.

I also have my eyes tested fairly regularly (the correct distance between tests for my age) and get a reminder from the optician. He's an ophthalmic optician so it's a very through test.

Well done Redstart, that's what I like to hear, people taking their eye health seriously.
