I've just read The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs - has anyone else read it? And apparently it's about to be made into a film starring Julia Roberts (an avid knitter apparently).

I can recommend it even if you don't knit as it's more about people than knitting as some of the members knit relationships rather than sweaters!

I read it a few months ago, and although it wasn't a typical hollywood-style ending (I think they'll be changing it for the film, although that's just a rumour), I sort of closed the book feeling a bit "oh". It was a bit of an anticlimax and although it had its merits, I don't like feeling a bit sad or demotivated.

It did get me thinking more about knitting though and starting up something similar, especially with the home-baked goodies on offer every week!

Yes, I wonder how many people have felt the urge to knit having read that book.

I was a bit shocked at the end but it was life-like I suppose. Not that an ending like that would suit Holywood.

I brought the book on Amazon the other day so I will look forward to reading it. At the moment I am reading John Humpheries book In God We Doubt, it is quite an interesting book.

Yes, I read this book a couple of months ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I especially liked the knitting inspired sayings at the beginning of each chapter. I loved the way the knitting group developed into something significant for each individual. It was a sad ending though. However, it left me...not so much a feeling of sadness. Rather, a sense of how much this young woman had positively changed the lives of those around her, thereby leaving a wonderful legacy of living life to the full with support of genuine friendships.

Well I have just finsihed the book last night, and I throughly enjoyed it, it made me laugh, it made me think, it inspired me to do something simular, it was very well written and also it had a twist towards the ending that I did not expect and it made me sad. In fact I feel quite sad that I have finished the book, I have'nt read a good book like that for ages and I read a lot also.

I hope we here more from Kate Jacobs.

Forgot to also mention that if they do make it into a movie it would not be the same, as you can lose yourself into escapism and I do not think the movie could do that.

I imagine the movie won't have the same sad spoiler ending either. I have to say I wasn't as impressed with the book as others. It was good, but sometimes it dragged and jumped about for me. Still an enjoyable enough read though, it did have a lot of plus points.

I picked this book up in the bookstore at the weekend, it looked like an enjoyable read.
Then I put it down again because I have so many books on the go at the moment. It was going to be on my list to buy when I finish all the others. No so sure now!

'Scuse the latest of my own thoughts on this book, only just joined you all. But I read this book, and loved it, and know of many people who took up knitting again after a long absence, after reading this book, myself included. Since this book I have gone on to read others of the same ilk....'The Knitting Circel' by Ann Hood and 'Knitting' by Anne Bartlett - there seemed to be a rush of novels based around the hobby and knitting circles etc.

I am now curious about this book, and must put it on my wish list. It sounds similar to a video I have, that I love, called "To make a patchwork quilt", about a patchwork circle. It goes back over the lives of each of the ladies, and their relationships with each other.
