I have a problem I have never come across before .Shop brought eggs which seem to be full of a watery liquid .I can't understand why they won.t even cook right .I was going to make an omelet for my son but it was impossible as just couldn't beat them due to this stuff. Thought I would try frying one ,same thing all this slimy water wouldnt cook . Does anyone know the answer to this as I have never ever had an egg like it in my life.

I've found that sometimes our fresh eggs are almost 'too' fresh to fry, but they don't seem that watery.

Were they free range eggs?

Yes free range but can honestly say have never come across eggs like this before . I have thrown them away now . Could it be anything to do with what they were fed on do you think.

I think the egg white gets 'thinner' as the eggs get older. So a new laid egg is perfect for poaching or frying as it holds its shape, older eggs are easier to peel when hard boiled and also easier to beat the yolk an white together for scrambled or omelettes.

I doubt it was to do with the feed.

Yes, we buy really fresh free-range eggs (the farmer's wife apologises if laid before more than two days) and if I fry them straight away, the white divides in two, with a thicker white round the yolk and a thinner one round the outside of the egg - not watery though.

This is what I mean there was'nt really any white to the eggs at all just the yolk was ok and the rest stayed like water and wouldnt cook at all .Weirdest eggs ever

Me neither never ever .You would have needed to see to believe what they were like.

Sounds like throwing them away was a wise move, dinger! I've never come across eggs like that and we've kept chickens for years.

You should have taken them back to the store and complained, there may be a whole batch like it. I have never come across anything like it either.

I'm wondering Dinger if your 'fresh eggs' had actually been frozen then thawed out for the shelf? Freezing innapropriate foods can cause a chemical change.
