I have listened to two radio programmes with master butchers who say mutton is on it's way back to the shelves! Evidently it is a cheaper cut that people stopped wanting but if it is cooked slowly with vegetables makes an inexpensive and tasy meal.

I always used to buy mutton and then it disappeared. It does have more flavour than lamb. I used to slow cook a leg for 2 or 3 hours and it would melt in your mouth. Same with the chops, slow cooked in a casserole they are wonderful. Lamb is a better option for busy people however I prefer to have something simmering away all day than a last minute rush.

Then keep your eyes open for mutton.

Mutton is possibly the most free range meat you can get isn't it?

Yes it is supposed to be. But if the mutton's coming back, my question is where has it been all these years. It evidently has a much better taste than lamb but just requires slower cooking.

Mutton has been missing because people no longer wanted to spend time cooking it and lamb was pushed at everyone. The sheep were killed younger so no mutton!!

I love mutton..I have seen quite a few recipes these last few months so it must be on the return. I keep forgetting though to ask my butcher if he has any mutton.

This Sunday I am cooking lamb but organic lamb and cooking it slowly for 2-3 hours with roasted veggies now that the root veggies are coming back in. Parsnips though are not one of my favourite veg.

Bring back Mutton that is what I say!

After reading what you ladies have to say about mutton, I think I will try it again.I bought some years and years ago and it made both my husband and myself ill!! it was probably my cooking! I love to do slow cooked dished so this sounds as though there will be some more tasty meals to enjoy.
